This is the time of year where things start to get hectic, to say the least. Holidays start rolling in fast and furiously (Happy New Year to anyone who recently celebrated Rosh Hashanah!), and Halloween is one that the kiddos get the most excited for. After all, not only do they get to go out trawling for candy, but they get to put their creativity (and your patience) to the test to come up with a costume that\u2019s clever or adorable (depending on your kids\u2019 age) while also being comfortable (and if you live north of the Mason-Dixon Line, warm).<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Halloween also tends to go hand-in-hand with crafts. Whether you\u2019re carving pumpkins or <\/span>making tissue paper ghosties<\/span><\/a>, it seems that Halloween is rife with different artistic options. Below, check out a few of our favorite Halloween-inspired crafts to keep your little ones (or your students!) entertained in the leadup to the big day.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Halloween Village Luminaries<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

These village luminaries from OhSoSavvyMom.com are just <\/span>too<\/span><\/i> cute. By reusing jars you\u2019ve got around the house and some quick printables from PicMonkey.com along with some metallic spray paint, a black permanent marker or paint pen (fine tip), and an LED tealight she crafted an adorablely spooky decorations. This project is definitely kid friendly, since most of the project is actually just tracing the printables through the glass. They may need a bit of help with the spray paint but otherwise they can go at it creating their own spooky village.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Glow In The Dark Pumpkins<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>If you aren\u2019t into the mess that carving a pumpkin makes, or perhaps your little ones are just too little to be cutting things themselves, this is a great alternative to carving – and even to traditional painting! This project works best on white pumpkins, but if you can\u2019t find any in your neck of the woods you can buy an orange pumpkin and paint it. Then, armed with glow in the dark puffy paint, go to town creating your creative or creepy (or maybe a little of both?) masterpiece! If you\u2019re planning to set these outside you can also buy a miniature black light to shine down on them to keep the pumpkins looking ghoulish for hours. <\/span>

\n<\/span>Costume Idea: Crayola Crayons<\/b>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

This is seriously just TOO cute. And it looks like it would be super simple to pull together. Simply get the kiddos together with some of their friends, have the kids dress all in the same color (you can probably find matching sweatsuits at Wal*Mart for fairly inexpensive), buy some spray-on hair color, and get to work. To get their hair to stand on end you could a) try to use loads of hairspray and gel, or b) craft a cone out of poster board and then wrap their hair around it (probably the simplest method). You\u2019ll most likely need to secure the cone with some bobby pins or snap clips, but that shouldn\u2019t be too difficult. And voila, the most adorable box of crayons ever!<\/span><\/p>\n
