How To Avoid A PTO / PTA Horror Story

November 4, 2015 by admin 1 Comment

It’s a story we hear all too often, and hope never happens to our organizations: late last August the president of the South Middle School PTA in Arlington Heights, VA was charged with stealing funds from the PTA’s accounts.

The former PTA president, who ultimately pled guilty to charges of forgery and theft, was using checks, totaling $1,408.00, from the PTA’s account for personal use and depositing funds into her personal bank account.

With so much money flying through PTA and PTO leaders’ hands, it’s easy to imagine that this could happen much more frequently than it does. It’s a credit only to the honesty and integrity of board members that funds aren’t always going missing. Thankfully, this particular organization had a system of checks and balances in place so that they were able to fairly quickly recognize that something was amiss.

In addition to making your organization easier to manage and more convenient for parents, security is another feature that Pay4SchoolStuff.com provides to our users. Payments being made through the system are automatically deposited into your organization’s bank account, and cash never needs to physically change hands.
